CURBING EXAMINATION MALPRACTICE IN NIGERIA

Mine
There is a popular adage which says “tell me the type of education you receive and I will tell you who  you are”.
A lot has been written about the Educational System in Nigeria.
Commentators, philosophers, scholars and academicians, etc have written profering all sorts solutions to problems confronting education in Nigeria, yet these problems persist.
A nagging problem that seems to defy all solutions, and which has permeated the very foundation of education in Nigeria is examination malpractice.  My investigation shows that every one is involved. That is students, teachers, and administrations. It may also interest you to note that there is now an official fee for examination malpractice paid by students while registering for their final year examinations. This money ranges from N1,500- N1,800 depending on the disposition of the principal fixing it. This money is shared amongst the principal, invigilators and Ministry of Education officials.
Schools involved in these malpractices are called  “Miracle Center”. This means, a candidate who registers for WAEC or NECO, and doesn’t even know how to write his or her name will pass his or her examinations in flying colours. It may also interest you  to know that, these miracle centers are well known by all. But because of the revenue these centers generate, threats against them are only aired on the radio and are never carried out .
Examination malpractice, no doubt has done a lot of harm to the Nigeria educational system. Most  candidates come out with grades they can hardly defend it academically. Imagine  a candidate with  9 credits who can not spell his name.
Our university system is also, affected as the menace has  been carried  there.
Until urgent measures are taken by all and sundry to steem this, the educational system in Nigeria is doomed.

GIVE US JEEPS OR RISK IMPEACHMENT – BENUE LAWMAKERS TELL GOVERNOR.

The 29- member Benue State lawmakers are now on a collision course with the State Governor, Dr.Gabriel Suswam over the issue of PRADO JEEPS.
Procurement of vehicles for individuals and groups, especially members of the Benue State House of Assembly by the Benue State Government has become a yearly ritual.  Usually, such vehicles are given to them at workshop venues or retreat.
So, at the retreat for the Executives and the Legislators on 2012 budget at the Obudu Cattle Ranch in Cross River State over the weekend, the lawmakers worked out of the retreat when the Governor failed to hand them their vehicle keys before the of the retreat. the lawmakers who headed home vowed to impeach the Governor should he fails to give them their jeeps as it has become the tradition.
Reacting to the incident, the Special Adviser to the Governor on media, Dr.Cletus Akwaya described the legislator’s action as “inconsiderate” saying as soon as the 2012 budget is passed, procurement of the vehicles will be done, and wondered why the Assembly Members should behave the way they did.

TRUE LOVE: DOES IT STILL EXIST?

Dictionary.com defines love as" tender, passionate affection, a strong personal liking". Many scholars look at 'love' as a 'lubricant',a 'connector' between human beings ,things or ideas. The question is :DDoes true love still exit? This question is pretty difficult, because the ingredients that signifies love ,that is poems, flowers and other gift items are no longer in vogue. In those days, you could only write a beautiful love poem to a woman and you win her heart. Now the situation has changed, women no longer appreciate poems or flowers. True love no longer exists. Love has been monetilized. If you have cash, you have love. Is like money for hand, back for ground. What do you think?

OVERHAUL OUR SECURITY SYSTEM

For Nigeria to meet her numerous security challenges,an urgent overhaul of the security system is needed. In other countries, security is taken as a priority ,but here,it is only when something happen that security will be remembered. After that, every thing about security is gone. Another aspect of security that needs attention is training. Most of the security personnel are not well educated.Training is vital for effeciency. Besides training, our security need equipment especially communication. Security personnel can perform optimally if given the right orientation and equipment.

2012 WILL BE TOUGH- UN

Those expecting the new year 2012 to be rosy will be disappointed by the report just released by the United Nations. According to the report, UN warned that failure by policy makers and the imposition of Austerity programmes across Europe due to the sovereign debt crisis may lead to another global showdown. The report also revealed that because of strict budget measures, growth in the European union would only hit 0.7 per cent compared to 1.6 percent registered in 2011 "Austerity is not an effective way to counter the debt crisis" said Robert shelburne, a senior Economic Adviser to the UN Economic Commission for Europe, especially when interests rates are low. The Agency France Presse (AFP) quoted shelburne as saying that Austerty was costing the world economy a trillion dollars in lost out put. Meanwhile, the world Bank report has also projected a drastic decline in growth in the year 2012.
