NIGERIA TO GET LOAN

The African Development Bank is looking to provide a total of $4.1 billion to Nigeria over 2016 and 2017, its president said, as Africa’s biggest economy seeks to bridge its budget deficit and improve weak infrastructure.
Akinwumi Adesina said the funds would be used to develop the power and agriculture sectors in the west African country, which has slipped into recession for the first time in over 20 years, largely due to low oil prices.
He was speaking after holding talks with the finance minister, Kemi Adeosun, and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo in the capital, Abuja.
Oil sales, the economy’s mainstay, generate 70 percent of government revenues. Attacks on energy facilities in the Niger Delta have cut crude production by around a third since the start of the year.
The OPEC member has been left struggling to fund a record 6.06 trillion naira ($18.6 billion) 2016 budget that aims to stimulate growth by tripling capital expenditure.
Adeosun said Nigeria had asked for a $1 billion loan to help cover its 2016 budget deficit.
She said it would be concessional and carry an interest rate of 1.2 percent.
Adesina later said the pan-African lender was looking to provide $4.1 billion over 2016/2017.
He said “deepening the level of diversification in critical sectors” such as agriculture, solid minerals and manufacturing, was of particular importance.
Aside from a wealthy elite who have profited from oil wealth, most of the 180 million people in Africa’s most populous nation live on less than $2 a day. Development has been held back for decades by a poor power, road and rail network.
“I expect that our portfolio in Nigeria will not decrease — it will actually grow. We expect to invest in Nigeria, by 2019, a total of $10 billion,” said Adesina, a former Nigerian agriculture minister.
The finance minister said the country was not over-borrowing. “What we are trying to do is to ensure that this money we are borrowing, we use it on the key infrastructure that will drive the economy,” she said.
Last week the central bank left its benchmark rate at 14 percent, defying calls from Adeosun to lower rates so that the government could borrow domestically to boost the economy without increasing debt-servicing costs.
Adesina said the AfDB had “asked for the need for better synergies between the macro policy side and monetary policy side and also the fiscal policy side of the economy.”

DRAMA IN KETU

There was drama in Ketu Community of Ogun State on Saturday after a pastor became numb after attempting to pull down a shrine.
The cleric, identified as Wale Fagbenro, reportedly claimed he was directed by the “Holy spirit” to destroy the traditional worshippers’ shrine.
A witness said Mr. Fagbenro became “speechless and motionless” upon entering the shrine.
Residents of the area in Yewa North Local Government Area subsequently raised an alarm attracting a crowd to the scene.
The witness said when the priests in charge of the shrine were approached, they declared that the cleric would only regain consciousness after some rituals were performed.
However, the priests eventually treated Mr. Fagbenro after the traditional ruler of Aiyetoro, Abdulaziz Adelakun, intervened.
The police in Ogun said on Sunday that the incident was reported to them.
“The command got the report at her division in Ayetoro that one Evangelist Wale Fagbere went to Ketu to destroy traditional worshippers ‘ shrines,” police spokesperson Abimbola Oyeyemi said.
“After the destruction, the man became unconscious, motionless and could not talk.”
Mr. Oyeyemi said the victim has been revived and “has been handed over to his family for more spiritual cleansing.”
He said the victim could still be charged for malicious damage if the traditional priests file a formal report
“Everybody has right to worship anything he so desires,” Mr. Oyeyemi said.

He said the police were investigating Uwouku for alleged diversion of pensions money and converting it to personal use.

The former Accountant of the Pension Board, Paul Chile is being investigated for allegedly conspiring with Uwouku to convert pensioners' money to their own use.

The leader of the investigation team further explained that the former Accountant, Local Government Service Commission, Moses Burya who was arrested with many fake receipts and receipts of a non-existent consultancy firm was said to have defrauded the Benue State Government of millions of naira under the pretext of training of local government staff.

The former Cashier of SUBEB, Jacob Ageva was arrested over alleged fraud in the payment of teachers' salaries from 2011 and 2015.

WHY NIGERIA'S ECONOMY IS IN TROUBLE-BUHARI

President Muhammadu Buhari has explained to Nigerian professionals in America how and why the Nigeria economy got into trouble.

The professionals, including top flight aeronautics engineers, physicians, I.T experts, a Judge, a top policewoman, entrepreneurs, an Import Specialist at Customs and Border Protection, professors, two straight A students, and many others, had converged from different parts of the United States of America.

President Buhari had the assurance that with all hands on deck, including the best brains in the Diaspora, the country would bounce back in the shortest possible time.

In a statement by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, Buhari said: “I am very pleased with this meeting. Wherever you go in the world, you find highly competent and outstanding Nigerians.

“They not only make great impact on their host countries and communities, their financial remittances back home also help our economy, particularly at a time like this, when things are down.

“We got into trouble as a country, because we did not save for the rainy day. For example, between 1999 and 2015, when we produced an average of 2.1 million barrels of oil per day, and oil prices stood at an average of $100 per barrel, we did not save, neither did we develop infrastructure.

“Suddenly, when we came in 2015, oil prices fell to about 30 dollars per barrel. I asked; where are the savings? There were none. Where are the railways? The roads? Power? None. I further asked; what did we do with billions of dollars that we made over the years? They said we bought food. Food with billions of dollars?

“I did not believe, and still do not believe. In most parts of Nigeria, we eat what we grow. People in the South eat tubers, those in the North eat grains, which they plant, and those constitute over 60 per cent of what we eat. So, where did the billions of dollars go?

“We did a lot of damage to ourselves by not developing infrastructure when we had the money.

“Talking of our military, they earned respect serving in places like Burma, Zaire, Sudan, Liberia, Sierra-Leone, and then, suddenly, that same military could no longer secure 14 out of 774 local governments in the country. Insurgents had seized them, calling them some sort of caliphate, and planting their flags there; till we came, and scattered them.

“We raised the morale of our military, changed the leadership, re-equipped and retrained them; USA, Britain, and some other countries helped us, and today, the pride of our military is restored.

“Boko Haram ran riot, killing innocent people in churches, mosques, markets, schools, motor parks, and so on. And they would then shout Allahu Akbar. But if they truly knew Allah, they would not do such evil. Neither Islam, nor any other religion I know of, advocates hurting the innocent. But they shed innocent blood, killed people in their thousands.
“Now, we have dealt with that insurgency, and subverted their recruitment base.” He said

Buhari continued: “Those who stole Nigeria dry are not happy. They recruited the militants against us in the Niger Delta, and began to sabotage oil infrastructure. We lose millions of barrels per day, at a time when every dollar we can earn, counts. It is a disgrace that a minimum of 27 states, out of 36 that we have in Nigeria, can’t pay salaries.

“But I prayed so hard for God to make me President. I ran in 2003, 2007, 2011, and in 2015, He did. And see what I met on ground. But I can’t complain, since I prayed for the job. In the military, I rose from 2nd Lieutenant to Major-General. I was military governor in 1975 over a state that is now six states. I was head of state, got detained for three years, and headed the Petroleum Trust Fund (PTF), which had N53 billion of that time in Nigerian banks.

“God has been very good to me, so I can’t complain. If I feel hurt by anybody, I ask God to help me forgive. He has done so much for me.

“After 16 years of a different party in government, no party will come and have things easy. It’s human. We need quality hands to run Nigeria, and we will utilize them. I will like to welcome you home when it’s time. But I’ll like you to be ready.” He added

All the Nigerian professionals pledged to contribute their quota towards re-launching their fatherland to a new dawn.

LOOTERS FIGHTING US-BUHARI

President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday said those who stole Nigeria dry are angry with his government and so have recruited the services of militants in the Niger Delta to fight his government.

CASHIERS ARRESTED FOR PAST MISDEEDS-SUBEB

Our Attention has been drawn to a  fallacious story published  on page 13 of the Punch Newspaper ofThursday, 22nd of September, 2016.

In the report, it was alleged that two officials of the Benue State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) have been arrested in connection with Fraud in the Award of the 710 contracts at SUBEB.

No official of the Benue SUBEB has been arrested in connection with the N7.6billion contracts at SUBEB, the ongoing investigation at SUBEB is in connection with the teachers’ Salary account at SUBEB, between January, 2011- January, December 2015.

On Tuesday this week, men from the police headquarters stormed the headquarters of the Board in connection with an investigation into the salary account of the Board, within the period of January 2011- January, 2015.

The reason for the presence of the police at the board is due to the failure of Mr Paul Mella(Cashier 2) and Jacob Ageva (Cashier 1)  to furnish the police with details concerning the account, despite the Directive of the Chairman, Dr Philip Tachin to the cashiers to cooperate with the police.

The police have extracted useful information from the two cashiers concerning the account under the last administration.

So the claim that the Arrest is in connection with the  N7.6b contracts is mischievous and  blatant falsehood.

On the claim that Due process was not followed in the award of the contracts for the Renovation and construction of 710 primary schools at SUBEB,  those who are aware of events at Benue SUBEB and the state can recall that on the 4th of March, 2016, the Benue SUBEB publicly Advertised the Pre-qualification Notice and  Invitation for Tender for the 4th Quarter 2011- 4th quarter 2015.

This was advertised in three National papers, and one local paper.

Pre-qualification notices were submitted, and not less than 1500 companies were qualified to bid for the 715 contracts.

The opening of bids for the contracts was also done in the full glare of the public for the first time in the state on the 27th of may, 2016.

Since the number of companies that bidded for the Contracts was more than twice the number of  available contracts, there was no way every company will be awarded a contract at SUBEB.

For one to now relate the ongoing investigation into a Bank Accounts at SUBEB under the last administration to the current Renovation/Construction of primary schools amounts to blatant falsehood and mischief, and must be dismissed by members of the public.

Sar Erdoo,
Information Officer, Benue State universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB)

IAM NOT A BOKO HARAM SPONSOR-IHEJIRIKA

A former Chief of Army Staff, retired Lt.-Gen. Azubuike Oyeabo Ihejirika, has told an FCT High Court that he is not involved with the Boko Haram Sect.
He told the court on Thursday that he fought the Boko Haram sec. using his commanders in the field.
Ihejirika sued Nduka Obaigbena, Leaders and Company Limited, and Stephen Davis, an Australian who claimed to be a hostage negotiator working for the release of Nigerian women taken hostage by the Boko Haram sect at Chibok, Borno State in 2014.
The former army boss is claiming N100bn for damages from the defendants for defamation in the interview granted by Davis to Arise TV and then published in ThisDay
He also asked for a perpetual injunction restraining the defendants from further defamatory comments concerning him.
Ihejirika wants the defendants to publish a full retraction and apology in the front page of ThisDay Newspaper for the said false and libellous publication
Ihejirika who was cross examined by counsel for the defendants, Frank Chude, said that Boko Haram were terrorists and the. Nigerian Army is fighting the group.
On whether his duties as General is of public consumption, Ihejirika said he was a public figure and issues related to him were for public consumption.
The former COAS said he did not have personal issues with Boko Haram but fought them as terrorists.
He admitted that he had heard about the tape of the interview and his name was not mentioned.
But Ihejirika said he was the only Chief of Army Staff that retired in January 2014 as mentioned in the tape.
He also said he had never granted ThisDay Newspaper any interview but read the said publication when his attention was drawn to it.
His Counsel, A.B. Anachebe (SAN), had raised objection that his client would not answer the question by the defence if the story published in ThisDay Newspaper about Ihejirika was true.
Anachabe said that the question and false publication was the reason why they were in court
Justice Valentine Ashi adjourned the case till Nov. 2 and Nov. 3 for continuation of cross examination and defence.
Recall that the former Army boss was arrested in June in connection with the with alleged misappropriation of the arms funds under former national security adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd).

BUHARI 'S ADDRESS AT THE UN.

ADDRESS BY HIS EXCELLENCY, MUHAMMADU BUHARI GCFR, PRESIDENT OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA AT THE UNITED STATES – AFRICA BUSINESS FORUM, NEW YORK, USA, 21st SEPTEMBER, 2016

1. I am delighted to be present here today at the 2nd edition of the United States–Africa Business Forum. I wish to thank the United States Department of Commerce and Bloomberg Philanthropies for organizing this event and for giving me this opportunity to address this august gathering of Political and Business Leaders from the United States of America (USA), Africa and other regions of the World. I believe all of us will take advantage of this Forum to establish and strengthen business relationships; share valuable experience; and collaborate for mutual benefits.

2. The United States has historically been one of Nigeria’s top trading partners; for decades, the US was the biggest importer of Nigeria’s crude oil. In the last two years, however, the sharp decline in US imports of our crude, on account of rising domestic production of Shale, has altered the trade balance between our two countries. But it has also thrown up opportunities for Nigeria to increase its non-oil exports – especially in agricultural products – to the U.S.
3. Today, Nigeria enjoys a mutually beneficial trade and investment relations with USA. This relationship has culminated in massive inflow of Foreign Direct Investment into Nigeria. There are several US Companies doing business in Nigeria, including Exxon-Mobil, Chevron, General Electric, IBM, Microsoft, Procter and Gamble, Coca-Cola, Pepsi Company, British-American Tobacco Company, UPS Courier Company, BCG, Johnson Wax Nigeria Ltd, Pfizer Pharmaceuticals, to name a few.

4. These are no doubt challenging times for the Nigerian economy. But let me use this opportunity to boldly affirm our conviction that there is no crisis without an accompanying opportunity. In our case, we see Nigeria’s ongoing economic challenges – occasioned mainly by the fall in oil prices – as an opportunity to set the economy firmly on the path of true diversification, sustainable economic growth, and shared prosperity.

5. Since the inception of my Administration in 2015, all efforts have been aimed at ensuring that all Nigerians enjoy rising standards of living. We campaigned for and came into office on the back of three fundamental issues: One, Securing Nigeria from terrorism and banditry, Two, Fighting corruption and ensuring that public funds work for the public good, and Three, Revamping an economy that was dangerously dependent on crude oil, and afflicted by rising inequality and jobless growth. We are pleased to note that our efforts are yielding fruit.

6. (On Security) – Hundreds of communities and thousands of people have been liberated from the clutches of the terrorists, under our watch, and are now getting a chance to, with support from the government and the international community, rebuild their homes and their lives.

7. (On corruption) – Our quest is to ensure, through a combination of institution-building and judicial efforts, that public funds work for the public good, and that persons responsible for overseeing the use of these funds come to this task with the utmost sense of transparency and accountability. Earlier this year we signed up to the Open Government Partnership, a clear demonstration of our commitment to a radical departure from a past characterized by large-scale state-enabled corruption. Let me also assure that we will continue to strengthen Government institutions established to address investors’ concerns.

8. (On the economy) – We are weaning ourselves from a historical dependence on crude oil, diversifying our economy, and putting it on the path of sustainable and inclusive growth. To this end, we have embarked on policies aimed at establishing an open, rules-based and market-oriented economy. We will continue to actively engage with the private sector at the highest levels to listen to your concerns and to assure you of our commitment to creating enabling policies in which your businesses can thrive. Indeed, we have constituted a Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council headed by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, which is working on a wide range of business environment reforms, ranging from making our planned visa-on-arrival regime a reality, to ports reform, to improving the speed and efficiency of land titling and business registration. We aspire to make Nigeria one of the most attractive places to do business.

9. Let me now focus on the priority investment sectors for our administration: Infrastructure, Industry, Agriculture, Mining and the Digital Economy.

10. Infrastructure: For far too long Nigeria has under-invested in the critical infrastructure necessary for a modern economy. Now, that is set to change. We are working hard to bridge an electricity deficit of several thousands of megawatts, which will require substantial private sector investment, especially in Transmission. Our railway system is being opened up after decades of a government monopoly that has hindered the needed private sector investment. We are well on course with a concessioning deal that will see General Electric take over hundreds of kilometers of existing rail assets, and invest billions of dollars to upgrade assets and services.

11. On Industry, there is the Nigerian Industrial Plan that is being implemented. The implementation is directed at interventions to improve productivity and output in five industry groups, namely: agri-business and agro-allied; solid minerals and metals; oil and gas; construction, and light manufacturing. Currently, investments and partnerships are being directed to leather and leather products; sugar; palm oil processing; food processing, specifically tomato and fruit processing. Automobile assembly and manufacturing are important to the diversification of the Nigerian economy. Industrial zones and parks are being established. This is work in progress.

12. In Agriculture, through our Agricultural Promotion Policy (APP), we are prioritizing the improvement in domestic production of rice, wheat, maize, fish, dairy milk, soya beans, poultry, fruits and vegetables, and sugar, as well as the export of cowpeas, cocoa, cashew, cassava (starch, chips and ethanol), ginger, sesame, oil palm, fruits and vegetables, beef and cotton. To achieve these goals, we are ready to partner with and support willing private investors, by creating an environment that is stable, safe, and competitive. I am pleased to note that Coca Cola has recently invested substantially in one of Nigeria’s best-known dairy and fruit juice companies, and is looking to increase its stake over the next few years.

13. In Mining, Nigeria is determined to build a world class minerals and mining ecosystem designed to serve a targeted domestic and export market. To accomplish this, we are prioritizing exploration, local processing and beneficiation of our mineral assets with provision of generous incentives including favorable tax regimes and royalties to investors interested in our market. We have as part of this identified mineral resources, which exist in commercially viable quantities, and designated them as strategic priorities for Nigeria’s domestic Industrialisation and Infrastructure requirements.

14. In the Digital Economy, which, like Infrastructure, has a multiplier effect that touches every part of the economy, opportunities abound. We have welcomed and continue to welcome investors willing to take a stake in one of the world’s largest and fastest growing telecoms markets – a market which has attracted more than $35 billion in FDI over the last decade and half. The Nigerian Communications Commission will shortly commence a licensing process for the deployment of broadband infrastructure across metropolitan areas in the country.

15. Young Nigerians are increasingly demonstrating that they have the talent and the passion to leverage the digital economy for solving our most pressing challenges. We are seeing a lot of activity in that space, and not just in Lagos, but even in cities further afield, from Uyo to Abuja. There are currently 150 million active mobile phone lines in the country – sixty percent of which are connected to the Internet. I can confidently say that Nigeria is in the early stages of a domestic technology revolution, and the government is paying serious attention and offering its full support.

16. Three weeks ago I hosted Mark Zuckerberg, the Founder and CEO of Facebook, which is now used regularly by 17 million Nigerians, more people than in any other country in Africa. A few months ago Mr. Zuckerberg invested $24 million in Andela, a technology company that has Iyin Aboyeji, a 25-year-old Nigerian as one of its co-founders, and maintains its main campus in the city of Lagos. On the same day that Mr. Zuckerberg visited I also welcomed and interacted with 30 of the most exciting technology startups in the country; among whom lie tomorrow’s billion-dollar corporations.

17. In terms of Trade, Nigeria is keen to more effectively leverage the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) opportunities to boost exports to the US Market. In collaboration with the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) we have developed an AGOA Response Strategy to boost exports under AGOA. We are willing to collaborate with willing development partners to address some of the constraints to accessing the US Market under AGOA, such as our inability to comply with US requirements. With our U.S. counterparts, we are also working on a post-AGOA framework. Nigeria will continue to work closely with the U.S. to ensure that trade works for development.

18. I urge the American businesses present here to take advantage of the investment opportunity that Nigeria represents. Nigeria remains the number one investment destination in Africa, with total FDI inflow of about US$3.64 billion in 2015. Apart from our domestic market of 170 million, the largest in Africa, we are also the main gateway to a combined West African consumer market that is about as large as ours. With a median age of 19, and with 70 percent of the population below the age of 35, Nigeria’s greatest potential lies in the talent and energy of her youth.

19. Your Excellencies, Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen, we recognize that the economic benefits of our trade and investment relations with the United States and other partners are unambiguous. In order to encourage private capital inflow, we have packaged some fiscal investment incentives which include the following: up to 5 years of tax holiday for activities classified as ‘pioneer’; Tax-free operations; no restrictions on expatriate quotas in Free Trade Zones; Capital Allowances (Agriculture, Manufacturing and Engineering); a low VAT regime of 5 percent; among others.

20. Let me use this occasion to announce the commencement of the latest in a series of bilateral engagements between the United States and Nigeria: the U.S. Nigeria Commercial and Investment Dialogue. This Dialogue, which will focus on Infrastructure, Agriculture, the Digital Economy, Investment and Regulatory Reform, will be jointly led by the Nigerian Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, and the US Commerce Secretary, and will include business executives from both countries. By strengthening existing trade and investment ties between our two countries, as well as opening up new vistas, it will complement the work currently being done by the US-Nigeria Binational Commission, the US-Nigeria Trade and Investment Framework, and similar initiatives. We very much look forward to the mutual benefits that will accrue from this Dialogue.

21. On this note, I enjoin investors here today to take advantage of this Forum to build synergies that would translate to increased trade and investment flows between Nigeria and United States of America. Nigeria welcomes you.

22. I wish you a fruitful deliberation. Thank You for listening

RELEASE OUR STOLEN FUNDS- BUHARI CRIES OUT.

President Muhammadu Buhari has asked Switzerland to urgently release Nigeria’s stolen funds stashed in the European nation.
The Nigerian leader stated this at a meeting with his Swiss counterpart, Johann Schneider-Ammann, his spokesperson said on Tuesday.
Read the full statement by Mr. Buhari’s spokesperson below.

At separate bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the ongoing 71st United Nations General Assembly in New York, United States of America, the President welcomed more investment and economic partnerships, saying Nigeria was a fertile ground for o handsome return on investments.
“Apart from your country’s close relationship with us, you have the same with most of our neighbours,” President Buhari told Francois Hollande of France. “We seek more collaboration, particularly in agriculture, mining and security.”
The President told his French counterpart of the Presidential Committee on the North East, which he described as a one-stop mechanism on development partnership for a zone that had been ravaged for many years by Boko Haram insurgents, and which needed urgent rebuilding.
Responding, President Hollande pledged that France would not only fully engage with Nigeria on different fronts, but would also provide humanitarian assistance in the North East.
“We will invest in Nigeria, we believe in her,” the French President said.
At another audience with President Johann Schneider-Ammann of Switzerland, President Buhari sought his counterpart’s cooperation on speedy repatriation of Nigerian money stashed in that country, stressing that Nigeria needed such resources, particularly for infrastructure.
With the two countries having agreed on projects to which the restituted funds would be deployed, President Schneider-Ammann promised quick action, as soon as the draft agreement was signed. He also pledged consolidation of mutual trade relationships, infrastructural development as well as support in training and equipping of the Nigerian military.

COURT ORDERS ARREST OF SENATE PRESIDENT

The Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT, sitting in Abuja has ordered the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Mr. Solomon Arase and other relevant security agencies in the country to arrest the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki.
In a ruling this afternoon, the tribunal headed by Justice Danladi Umar issued a bench warrant against Saraki following his refusal to appear in court to face a 13-count criminal charge that was preferred against him by the Federal Ministry of Justice.
FG had through a deputy director in the office of the Attorney General of the Federation, Mr. M.S. Hassan, asked the tribunal to order Saraki’s arrest.
Saraki who was billed for arraignment this morning, sent his team of lawyers to serve the tribunal with a copy of the ruling of Justice Ahmed Mohammed of the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court, yesterday, which summoned the Ministry of Justice to appear on Monday to show cause why the trial should be allowed to proceed.
Equally summoned by the court were the Chairman of the tribunal, Justice Danladi Umar and that of the Code of Conduct Bureau, CCB, Mr. Sam Saba, as well as Mr. Hassan who signed the charge against Saraki.
Meanwhile, irked by Saraki’s absence at the tribunal for the commencement of his prosecution over alleged false declaration of assets, the Ministry of Justice prayed the Justice Umar-led panel to order for his arrest, saying “he cannot sit in the comfort of his chamber and object to his trial in absentia”.
The prosecution further maintained that Justice Mohammed lacked the powers to summon the CCT and CCB chairmen, even as it accused Saraki of engaging in “forum shopping” in a desperate bid to scuttle his trial.
Meanwhile, Saraki has through his lawyer, begged the tribunal to consider his position as the Senate President and stay the execution of the arrest warrant, saying he would be available for trial on Monday.
His plea was refused by Justice Umar who maintained that the accused person, having sworn to protect the constitution, ought to have shown respect to the tribunal by appearing before it today.

WOMAN BITES PRIVATE PART OF A MAN.

A Techiman Municipal Fire Commander is reportedly in a critical condition after his penis was chopped off by a 24-year-old woman, who he allegedly attempted to rape in her room.
According to Adom online reports, the victim said she works with Mr. Eric Ansah Andor at the Techiman Fire Service at Techiman in the Brong Ahafo Region, Ghana.
On the day of the incident, she was at home when Mr Ansah came with his cloths to have them washed. After she had accepted to wash it, she offered her boss water and was returning to the kitchen to start washing the clothes, only for him to drag her from behind and started abusing her sexually.
She said: “I offered him water and in an attempt to enter my other room I resisted initially and later he threatened me saying ‘he is the commander and so anything he wants he gets it’ and because he said that I got scared he would do something bad to me.
“I decided to play to his gallery on the bed and I told him I am ready and so he should do whatever he wants to do with me but after romancing with him for three minutes, I grabbed his penis  and bit it hard.”
“He started bleeding profusely and so called for help from their office.”
The fire commander was later rushed to the Dr. Kesse Hospital at Techiman for medical attention.
The Techiman Police station has begun investigations into the matter.

FEDERATION ACCOUNT HOLDS,SHARES 510.2 bn.

The Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, on Tuesday in Abuja, said N510.2 billion was shared among the federal, states and local governments as revenue realised in August.
She made the disclosure while addressing a news conference on the outcome of the Federation Account Allocation Committee, FAAC.
The amount is higher than the N493.6 billion shared in July by N16.6 billion.
The minister said that during the month, N315 billion was generated as statutory distributable revenue, adding that this was higher than the N287.8 billion received in the previous month by N27.22 billion.
She added that “the sum of N6.3 billion was refunded to the Federation Account by Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).
“There is a proposed distribution of N35 billion Excess Petroleum Profit Tax.
“Also, there was the exchange gain of N84.2 billion proposed for distribution.’’
She also said that Value Added Tax (VAT) was N75.9 billion as against N66.9 billion generated in July, indicating an increase of N8.9 billion.

She added that mineral revenue for the month was N158.7 billion, while that of July was N119.4 billion. Non-mineral revenue for August was N156.3 billion and that of July was N168.4 billion.
Giving the breakdown of revenue among the three tiers, Mrs. Adeosun said the Federal Government received N187.3 billion, representing 52.68 per cent, while states got N95.0 billion, representing 26.72 per cent.
Local governments, she said, received N73.2 billion, amounting to 20.60 per cent of the amount distributed, while N18.4 billion, representing 13 per cent derivation revenue, was shared among oil producing states.

According to her, crude oil export volume increased by 2.2 million barrels in May in spite of the brief Force Majeure declared at Qua Iboe and Bonny Terminals.
She also said that there was $109 million revenue increase in federation export sales as a result of the increase in average price of crude oil from 42.2 dollars in April to 46.0 dollars per barrel in May.
She said there was a rise in dutiable imports which contributed significantly to the increase recorded by import duty and VAT.
The minister said that the balance of the excess crude account stood at $2.91 billion.

AS RECESSION BITES HARDER,GOVERNOR ABOLISHES TAXES.

Following his conviction that there would be long suffering as a result of the recession in the country, Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State yesterday abolished some levies and taxes in the state.
Obiano who addressed the state in special broadcast said abolishment of the levies and taxes was to cushion the effect of the economic downtown on the people.
He said, “Following the formal announcement by the Federal Government that the nation’s economy has gone into a recession, I consider it my duty as your Governor to distil the message of the economic situation of the country down to the grassroots.
“Following this development too, I am happy to announce to you that I have come up with a Stimulus Package that will ease the pain of the recession and help our dear state bounce back to prosperity.
“Brothers and sisters, our country’s painful journey into the current recession is fairly known to us. The events that triggered this decline are very well documented in the public domain. So, I will not go through the details of how we arrived where we are.
“I wish to assure you that after a careful study of the situation, I am more convinced now than ever before that with our fundamentals, our infinite capacity to come back from deficits and our implicit faith in God, our story should be different in Anambra State.
“Consequently, our intervention comes in Four Key Areas: Tax Relief Programme, Special Intervention Programmes for Small and Medium Enterprises, MSMEs and Large Enterprises, Social Intervention Programme for Low Income Households and finally; Intervention in Infrastructure-for-Jobs.”
He said his Tax Relief Programme was meant to evaluate existing taxes, levies and fees in the state and introduce some waivers and in some cases scrap the collection of some illegal levies imposed on the people, adding that they would go a long way to cushioning the impact of the recession on households in the state.
His broadcast also reads inpart, “I hereby suspend the sale of consolidated emblems in Anambra State. I suspend the collection of Hawkers Permit on all streets in the state. I suspend the collection of Wheelbarrow Tax in all markets in the state.
“Lastly, I abolish the imposition of unapproved levies on students in public primary and secondary schools in the state. All these pronouncements shall take immediate effect.
“My role as your Governor is to envisage challenges and provide solutions that will ensure a speedy comeback from difficult situations that require the power and might of a state government.”
Obiano however assured the people that his agricultural policy and various other intervention measures would sustain hope and life for his people in the prevailing hardship and urged them support the government to continue to develop that state.

ARMY WANTS ATM

The Nigerian Army, on Sunday, called on commercial banks to deploy Automated Teller Machines, ATM, to the military barracks in Maiduguri for the use of front line soldiers involved in the ongoing counter-insurgency operation in Borno.
Brig. Gen. Victor Ezugwu, the General Officer Commanding, GOC, 7 Division, made the call while speaking at a Civil-Military Forum organised by the Nigerian Army in Maiduguri.
Ezugwu was reacting to criticisms by residents that soldiers often refused to join queues at the ATM points in the town.
He said that the army had written several letters to the banks for the deployment of ATM machines to the barracks without much success.
“We have been battling with the issue of lack of ATM in the barracks for the use of soldiers in the front line zone.
“I wrote letters to the banks over seven months ago for them to deploy the ATM at the Maimalari Cantonment for soldiers use, but there is no response yet,” he said.
Ezugwu said that the military was concerned about the development and urged the residents to intervene.
“I want to urge everybody here, especially traditional rulers, to help put pressure on the banks so that they can give us ATM at the barracks and allow you to use the ones in town.
“We are aware of the fact that everybody needs the ATM at one point or another,” he said.
“ A soldier carrying 12 ATM cards at a time must have brought his colleagues’ cards from the frontline to take money and send to their families all over Nigeria.
“We have areas where there is no network, it is only through the ATM that the soldiers can send money home to their families’ he said.
Ezugwu appealed for more understanding from the residents pending when the ATM would be provided by the banks at the barracks.

HERDSMAN GETS PRISON TERM

As most states in gear up to curtail the incessant attracts by herdsmen an
Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti has sentenced one Ali Haruna to two years imprisonment for taking his cows for grazing in a farmland in Ado-Ekiti and destroying crops.
The Magistrate, Idowu Ayenimo, in his judgement, said the accused was arraigned in his court on Jan 22, 2016 over a two-count charge of wilful and unlawful damage of farm crops at Ago Aduloju in Ado-Ekiti.
The 18-year-old Haruna was confirmed by the four prosecuting witnesses to have been caught in the midnight grazing his cow in the farm belonging to Abdulahi Yaho and Bello Mohammed.
The cash crops said to have destroyed by the cows in the farm included cassava, maize, okro and pepper, all valued at N3 million. In his defence, the defendant had told the court that the owner of the cows lived in Ilorin, Kwara. The magistrate said that the court did not believe Haruna’s defence as it was not credible.
He held that the Police prosecutor, Mr Olasunkanmi Bankole, had proved his case beyond reasonable doubt. He thereby convicted the defendant as charged without option of fine. The magistrate ordered that sentence should run concurrently, explaining that the term was minimal because the offence was committed before the Grazing Law was promulgated in the state.
The defence counsel, Mr Chris Omokhafe, had prayed the court to be liberal in the dispensation of justice, saying that he was a first offender.

BEGGING BANNED IN ABUJA.

The Federal Capital Territory Administration, has restated that grazing, begging, street hawking and commercial motorcycle remained banned in the Federal Capital City, Abuja and must be enforced by the security agents.
The FCT Minister, Malam Muhammad Bello stated this on Monday in Abuja, after an emergency FCT Security Committee meeting.
Bello stressed that the FCT Administration would continue to collaborate with the security agencies to ensure that the ban was effective while following all due processes.
He emphasised that the institutions must be strengthened to carry out their statutory duties in line with the ‘Change Agenda’ of the Federal Government.
He however commended the security community for “the high-level intelligence sharing that has so far assisted the Administration to nip in the bud any security breach in the Territory.”
The security committee condemned the illegal attempt by some criminal gangs that stormed the Vocational and Rehabilitation Centre, Kuchiko in Bwari Area Council to rescue some of the inmates at the centre, following the arrest of 687 beggars.
It also decried the illegal use of uncompleted buildings by miscreants and criminals in the FCT, warning that owners of such properties would be held responsible for any security breach traced to their property.
The minister reiterated that owners of such uncompleted buildings must provide security in and around such structures and also ensure the cleanliness of the surrounding areas.
The meeting was attended by the FCT Permanent Secretary, Dr. Babatope Ajakaiye, FCT Police Commissioner, Commandant Guards Brigade, Garrison Commander, heads of Navy and Air Force in the FCT, Director of FCT DSS, Chairmen of the six Area Councils in FCT, Coordinator, AMMC as well as Mandate Secretaries and the heads of Para-military organs in the FCT.ntalive.com

FIRST LADY CRIES OUT.

Nigeria's former first lady ,Patience Jonathan on Monday ,said the recent freezing of some $15m which she claimed belongs to her amounted to 'political persecution' and threatened to sue the country's antigraft agency over the freeze.
In an open letter to Nigeria's Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Jonathan insisted she was neither told of any corruption probe against her nor was she invited to make any statement before accounts she claimed to be hers were frozen on suspicion of graft.
"It is (Mrs Jonathan's) brief that up until the writing of this Open Letter, she has not received any formal invitation to appear before the Commission for questioning; whereas her accounts domiciled with Skye Bank Plc. have since been frozen by the Commission without recourse to her," according to the letter written by her attorneys.
"It is also our client’s brief that the EFCC failed to obtain a court order as required by Section 34 of the EFCC Act before her accounts were frozen.
"Our Client has unfortunately come under the vice grip and stranglehold of the cabal of political jobbers who would not allow her concentrate on her private life in retirement," the letter added.
Jonathan claimed the actions of the agency violated the country's law and her rights under the African Charter on Human and People's Rights. She asked the agency to unfreeze the accounts within the next 14 days or risk being dragged before the African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights in The Gambia.
Jonathan's funds frozen by the antigraft agency were found in accounts operated by firms belonging to those who were aides to her assistant, Waripamowei Dudafa.
All four firms last Friday pleaded guilty to charges of laundering the $15m on behalf of Jonathan's aide. However, the former first lady claimed the accounts belonged to her.
The agency, for its part, insists the money was a proceed of corrupt enrichment and that freezing it until purported owners proved otherwise is within its constitutional right.
The case is just one of the many corruption cases linked to the administration of former president, Goodluck Jonathan.

JAMB GIVES DEADLINE

.
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has insisted that all admissions to universities, polytechnics and colleges of education should be concluded by 30th November.
JAMB Registrar Is-haq Oloyede reaffirmed the deadline on Friday in Abuja at the opening of an Extra-Ordinary Technical Committee Meeting on 2016 Admissions to First Choice Institutions.
The meeting held at the Baze University, Abuja. He said that the meeting was an indication that the board was ready to attend to legitimate requests of its stakeholders and clients in the collective quest for efficiency.
Oloyede said that JAMB would be flexible except in cases where flexibility would be unethical or inimical to national interest.
According to him, the meeting is in line with the board’s pledge to be consultative and all-inclusive in the discharge of its functions.
“The First Technical Committee Meeting was held in Bayero University, Kano, from Aug. 22 to Aug. 26, where institutions were expected to make submissions for their first choice admissions to admissions’ panels at the technical sessions.
“However, some institutions informed the meeting that they were not ready to make submissions as internal processes leading to the exercise had not been completed.
“The affected institutions requested for an earlier special date than the date for the Second Technical Committee Meeting scheduled for Nov. 14 in Owerri, Imo State,’’ he said.
Oloyede said that he expected the institutions represented at the meeting to be prepared to make presentations of their recommended candidates to the board. He said that the meeting was primarily for placement of suitably qualified candidates into tertiary institutions.
“As such, I need to re-state my earlier submission that the senate and the academic boards of the institutions have the primary responsibility of recommending candidates to the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board for admissions.
“JAMB will not initiate or insert any candidates but will, as expected, ensure that no candidate is unjustly treated by any institution.
“The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board is thus a referee for justice, equity and standards,” he said.
The registrar said that the only difference in the 2016 admissions process was the policy that there should be no written post Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination test.
He said that other admission processes remained. The registrar urged institutions yet to update their requirements for the 2017 brochure to urgently do so.

By Charles Iornumbe and Richard Uleve of Radio Benue

The Benue State joint security task force has shot and killed two suspected criminals said to be members of the gang of a wanted notorious gangster, Mr Terwase Akwaza, also known as Ghana in a joint operation earlier in the day.

Briefing newsmen at the state police headquarters in Makurdi, Police Commissioner, Mr Bashir Makama, stated that those shot dead while trying to escape arrest were Atondo Ibya and David Nyior.

"This is a continuation of the search and onslaught on criminals in their hideouts".

The Police commissioner explained that the late Ibya was said to be the ring leader of those who attacked and killed 10 people in Singa village in Katsina-Ala local government area few days ago.

ORTOM TO OUTSHINE APER AKU

ORTOM TO OUTSHINE APER AKU

By: James Ornguga

President, Benue Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture(BECCIMA), Arc. Austine Asema Achado has urged  Gov.  Samuel Ortom to be focused, consistent and bring to bear on the Benue developmental landscape achievements that will surpass and outshine efforts of the late Appolos Aper Aku, first civilian governor of Benue state and by so doing, write his name in the good books of history.

Arc. Achado gave this charge when the MINDA Youth Coalition, a group peopled by proactive youths of conscience and  passionate about the realisation of the Ortom vision of a "collective vision for a new Benue" paid him a familiarisation visit in his Makurdi residence to interface with him on how best to carve an arrowhead of progress for the MINDA intermediate area.

The BECCIMA President who expressed confidence in the ability of the Ortom government to bring about an industrial revolution emphasised that the governor was from all indications poised to boost development in many facets of the state but was at the moment hampered by the current dwindling economic fortunes, which has slowed down the pace of development, not just in the state but the whole nation, maintaining that when his efforts finally come to fruition, critics of the government would be proved wrong.

He urged the governor not to be intimidated and distracted by the challenges of the day as better is the end of a thing than a hasty take off glory. Arc. Achado observed with optimism that those of them in the private sector equally  have a critical role to play as he has constantly been in touch with the governor and his professional colleagues in the state to cross-fertilize ideas on how to move out of the present quagmire, pointing out that this is the more reason he has on his part embarked on the massive entrepreneurial and community based services. He encouraged all sons and daughters of the state to move beyond the blame game and in their minimal and maximum capacities contribute their quota to save the state rather than shift the burden of development to the shoulders of the government.

Earlier in his speech, President of the Coalition, Philip Mbakuuv Ankyhquwa who  explained the activities of the group as being development- centred lamented the backwardness of the MINDA zone when placed head to head with their contemporaries and sued for support not just for the Ortom administration but for the emancipation of the zone. Ankyhquwa who lavishly poured accolades on Arc. Achado for hosting the group sooner than expected pointed out that the BECCIMA president has through his various establishments given job opportunities to many youths of MINDA and Benue in general, urging him to fast- track the take off of Benysta College of Education, Makurdi and  the Aliade Cement Factory, which are his brainchildren, so as to bring more job opportunities to stranded youths of the state.

In their vocal responses, Collins Ahokegh, James Gbudu  and Bem Dzwa representing the three super- clans of Masev, Ihyarev and Nongov unanimously bestowed on Arc. Achado the worthy title of "Jewel of the MINDA People" , which they said was merited based on his unequalled community based establishments and services, such as; Angus College, Makurdi, Benysta Hotel, Aliade, Construction of nylon tarred streets in Aliade, and building of the biggest Catholic church auditorium within Benue in Aliade. The trio equally reminded him of his earlier efforts which manifested in the setting up of Benysta Communications, one of the earliest computer centres that had introduced internet services in Makurdi, adding that by the time the College of Education and Cement Factory go operational, a large population of youths must have been employed and urged Achado to always involve and develop the youth of Benue.

In his final address, Honourable Special Adviser to the Governor on Lands and Survey, Prof. Jonathan Uever who was recently conferred the prestigious title of Garkowa Maitasa Arewa by the Arewa Youth Youth Council (AYC) praised the unequalled innovations of Arc. Achado and thanked the MINDA Youth Coalition for their wise decision to support their own government, under the leadership of Governor Samuel Ortom to succeed. Prof. Uever tasked the youth to be creative and unite for their good as the state will certainly overcome the current economic challenges and make life easier for all. He lamented the activities of naysayers who are bent on seeing nothing good in the government of the day but expressed hope that a turnaround was on the way.

HOW TO ARREST GANA.

We are all aware of the atrocities commuted by Terwase Agwaza alias gana. Briefly put, gana was the brain behind cattle rustling ,kidnapping and even broad day armed robbery.
He turned hitherto very brilliant chaps into instruments of destruction.
It is obvious that it the PDP that nurtured and even sustained gana for their political gains. No wonder the then Governor of Benue state , Gabriel Suswamused to talk of Blood will flow at optical rallies.
No wonder gana was rich and acquired assorted weapons.
When PDP was overthrown,  gana was given amnesty after he surrendered some of his weapons.
Killings, kidnapping and cattle rustling continued desire gana's purported repentance.
The height of his kinnings was when Mr Igbana, the security adviser to governor on special security was assassinated. Mr Igbana, he he did placed his death squarely on gana.
Gana has been declared wanted by the Government and a reward of 5m naira placed on who will volunteer information leading to his arrest.
How do we find gana?
Gana may be in Benue ,operating in Benue.
He is being used by PDP to cause mayhem to the APC government in the state. Search houses of PDP. Gana may be there.

FEDERAL GOVERNMENT NOT PERSECUTING GOODLUCK AND WIFE- LAI MOHAMMED.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has said the Federal Government led President Muhammadu Buhari, is not persecuting Former President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife, Patience.
The Minister revealed this in an interview with journalists in Oro, Kwara State, on Tuesday, saying it would be wrong to submit that the Federal Government was probing Goodluck Jonathan or Dame Patience Jonathan.
“If you look at the history of Mrs. Patience Jonathan’s issue, I think she was the one that came out to claim that the money found in the accounts of one of the aides to the former President, her husband, belonged to her”.
“It was not the EFCC that claimed so. She claimed that the money that the guy was being prosecuted for belonged to her. It was only then they later found an extra $5m in another account. it is not as if anybody has gone out to probe Mrs. Jonathan directly or indirectly. Rather. Mrs. Jonathan was the one that said ‘that money for which you are accusing Mr. X actually belongs to me. So, you cannot start talking of prosecution or persecution.”
”“People have always said that no APC politician had been investigated. The question is ‘those who are those being prosecuted today, for what reasons are they being prosecuted?
“It is wrong to say that the government is only investigating and prosecuting PDP members. We have not even started investigating the oil and gas industry. It is not about going out to investigate PDP. No! We lost about 15,000 people. Nobody can, in honesty, accuse the FG of being one sided.’’

Former First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, has written a letter the Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) explaining  that the $31.4 million connected to the financial fraud levelled against Mr. Waripamo Dudafa by EFCC was for the payment of the medical bills she incurred in London in 2013.

The monies in a local bank and claimed by Mrs. Jonathan were placed on a No Debit Order in the course of investigations into the financial affairs of Mr. Waripamo Dudafa, who served as Special Adviser on Domestic Affairs to former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Patience Jonathan claimed ownership of the $31.4 million in the affidavit before a Federal High Court in Lagos.

In the affidavit by Sammie Somiari a legal practitioner on behalf of Patience Jonathan claims that it was Dudafa who helped Mrs Patience Jonathan to open the four bank accounts which the EFCC froze.

This made the EFCC to file an amended 17-count against Dudafa and seven others, including the four companies, with the defendants being accused of conspiring to conceal the monies which the EFCC claimed they ought to have known formed parts of the proceeds of an unlawful act.

The former first lady in her letter to the Acting Chairman of the EFCC, Mr. Ibrahim Magu by her lawyers, Granville Abibo (SAN) and Co enjoined the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and Skye Bank to lift the restriction placed on the accounts.

In the letter Patience Jonathan admitted that the she is the sole signatory to the accounts and the accounts were card-base. She further went to say that she has been using the account to pay for her medical bill and other personal purposes and that she is a law-abiding citizen.

“It is noteworthy to emphasise that the said accounts, which were in US dollar denomination, were card-based accounts and our client is the sole signatory to these accounts.

“Our client has been operating the said accounts using the cards for her medical bill payments and purchases for her private purposes without any let or hindrance.

“Our client was therefore surprised when the said cards stop functioning on July 7, 2016, or thereabout. Our client immediately, thereupon, contacted Skye Bank Plc through our solicitors.

‘‘It was only then that the bank officials informed our client that the said accounts were placed on a ‘No Debit Order’ following investigations and instruction from your commission and this is without notice to our client by either the bank or the commission.

“It is in the light of the foregoing that we urge you to use your good offices to vacate the ‘No Debit/Freezing Order’ placed on the said accounts.”

“Despite the foregoing, our client, who is a law-abiding citizen, has watched with surprise how efforts are being made surreptitiously to indirectly harass or harangue her and short-change her of her personal funds in breach of her fundamental human rights.

“We urge you sir, to kindly intervene to stop the untoward and wrongful actions of your officials to embarrass, inconvenience and short-change our client.”
Madam Patience Jonathan, on the 17 of February in 2013, had said she died and woke up after seven days during her illness for almost three months.

Patience Jonathan testimony.

According to her testimony in 2013 she said she underwent seven surgery operations within one month and the doctors had given up hope on her survival.

“I remember when Chief Obasanjo was the President of the country, I was close to his late wife, Stella. We worshiped together in this chapel.

It was a painful moment for me that time when she (Stella) died and her corpse was brought here.

“That was how my corpse would have been brought here. It was not an easy experience for me. I actually died, I passed out for more than a week. My intestine and tummy were opened.

“I am not Lazarus but my experience was similar to his. My doctors said all hope was lost.

“A black doctor in London who is with us in this service was flown in when the situation became critical. It was God himself in His infinite mercy that said I will return to Nigeria. God woke me up after seven days.

“I know that some people somehow leaked the information that I was dead. They are people that I trust and rely on; to them, I was dead and I would never return to the country alive. Some of them even sold my things off.

“I won’t say everything here. It is the Lord’s doing that I returned alive. When God says yes, nobody can say no.

CITING “People are always afraid of operation (surgery) but in my own case, while my travail lasted, I was begging for it (surgery) after the third operation because I was going to the theatre everyday. vanguardngr.com

MAKE NIGERIA GREAT AGAIN-BUHARI.

President Muhammadu Buhari Tuesday in
Daura called on Nigerian youths to make
Nigeria great again through pursuit of
knowledge, patriotism
and commitment to values that promote
national unity.
This was contained in a press release made
available to the media by the Senior Special
Assistant to the President on Media &
Publicity, Garba Shehu on Tuesday.
Over 100 National Youth Service Corps
(NYSC) members serving in Daura local
government area, paid a courtesy visit to the
President at his residence in Daura.
President Buhari pledged his unalloyed
commitment to the unity and prosperity
of Nigeria.
He urged them to remain focused in life,
pursue their dreams and reject those fanning
embers of discord and disintegration of
Nigeria.
The President, who specially recognised
corps members from the Niger Delta and
South-Eastern states serving in Daura,
praised the vision of
former President Yakubu Gowon in setting up
the scheme in 1973.
The President said the scheme has
creditably promoted national unity and
cohesion by exposing young people to the
uniqueness and cultural
diversity of Nigeria.
“I asked for those from the other extreme of
Nigeria because I very much appreciate the
NYSC scheme and whenever I see General
Gowon, I
always thank him for that.’’
Speaking specifically to corps members from
the South Eastern states, the President said:
“Tell your colleagues who want Biafra to
forget
about it.’’
“As a military commander, I walked from
Degem, a border town between the north
and the east, to the border between
Cameroons and Nigeria.
“I walked on my foot for most of the 30
months that we fought the Nigeria-Biafra
civil war, in which at least 2 million
Nigerians were
killed.
“We were made by our leaders to go and
fight Biafra not because of money or oil,
because oil was not critical factor then, but
because of
one Nigeria.
“So if leaderships at various levels failed, it
was not the fault of the rest of Nigerians
who have no quarrel with one another.
“So please tell your colleagues that we must
be together to build this country. It is big
enough for us and potentially big enough in
terms
of resources.
”Those who work hard will earn a
respectable living. I have seen this country, I
fought for this country and I will continue to
work for the
unity of this country,’’ the President said.
The Corps Liaison Officer in Daura, Mr
Egbewumi Adebolu, in his remarks, thanked
the President for the honour of receiving
them and
making their stay in Daura memorable.
He said the youths strongly believed in the
programme of the President to reduce
unemployment and create jobs for more
Nigerians.
Adebolu thanked the President for his
personal gifts of cows, bags of rice and cash
to corps members in the community for
Salah celebration.
