FEDERAL GOVERNMENT NOT PERSECUTING GOODLUCK AND WIFE- LAI MOHAMMED.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has said the Federal Government led President Muhammadu Buhari, is not persecuting Former President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife, Patience.
The Minister revealed this in an interview with journalists in Oro, Kwara State, on Tuesday, saying it would be wrong to submit that the Federal Government was probing Goodluck Jonathan or Dame Patience Jonathan.
“If you look at the history of Mrs. Patience Jonathan’s issue, I think she was the one that came out to claim that the money found in the accounts of one of the aides to the former President, her husband, belonged to her”.
“It was not the EFCC that claimed so. She claimed that the money that the guy was being prosecuted for belonged to her. It was only then they later found an extra $5m in another account. it is not as if anybody has gone out to probe Mrs. Jonathan directly or indirectly. Rather. Mrs. Jonathan was the one that said ‘that money for which you are accusing Mr. X actually belongs to me. So, you cannot start talking of prosecution or persecution.”
”“People have always said that no APC politician had been investigated. The question is ‘those who are those being prosecuted today, for what reasons are they being prosecuted?
“It is wrong to say that the government is only investigating and prosecuting PDP members. We have not even started investigating the oil and gas industry. It is not about going out to investigate PDP. No! We lost about 15,000 people. Nobody can, in honesty, accuse the FG of being one sided.’’

Former First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, has written a letter the Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) explaining  that the $31.4 million connected to the financial fraud levelled against Mr. Waripamo Dudafa by EFCC was for the payment of the medical bills she incurred in London in 2013.

The monies in a local bank and claimed by Mrs. Jonathan were placed on a No Debit Order in the course of investigations into the financial affairs of Mr. Waripamo Dudafa, who served as Special Adviser on Domestic Affairs to former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Patience Jonathan claimed ownership of the $31.4 million in the affidavit before a Federal High Court in Lagos.

In the affidavit by Sammie Somiari a legal practitioner on behalf of Patience Jonathan claims that it was Dudafa who helped Mrs Patience Jonathan to open the four bank accounts which the EFCC froze.

This made the EFCC to file an amended 17-count against Dudafa and seven others, including the four companies, with the defendants being accused of conspiring to conceal the monies which the EFCC claimed they ought to have known formed parts of the proceeds of an unlawful act.

The former first lady in her letter to the Acting Chairman of the EFCC, Mr. Ibrahim Magu by her lawyers, Granville Abibo (SAN) and Co enjoined the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and Skye Bank to lift the restriction placed on the accounts.

In the letter Patience Jonathan admitted that the she is the sole signatory to the accounts and the accounts were card-base. She further went to say that she has been using the account to pay for her medical bill and other personal purposes and that she is a law-abiding citizen.

“It is noteworthy to emphasise that the said accounts, which were in US dollar denomination, were card-based accounts and our client is the sole signatory to these accounts.

“Our client has been operating the said accounts using the cards for her medical bill payments and purchases for her private purposes without any let or hindrance.

“Our client was therefore surprised when the said cards stop functioning on July 7, 2016, or thereabout. Our client immediately, thereupon, contacted Skye Bank Plc through our solicitors.

‘‘It was only then that the bank officials informed our client that the said accounts were placed on a ‘No Debit Order’ following investigations and instruction from your commission and this is without notice to our client by either the bank or the commission.

“It is in the light of the foregoing that we urge you to use your good offices to vacate the ‘No Debit/Freezing Order’ placed on the said accounts.”

“Despite the foregoing, our client, who is a law-abiding citizen, has watched with surprise how efforts are being made surreptitiously to indirectly harass or harangue her and short-change her of her personal funds in breach of her fundamental human rights.

“We urge you sir, to kindly intervene to stop the untoward and wrongful actions of your officials to embarrass, inconvenience and short-change our client.”
Madam Patience Jonathan, on the 17 of February in 2013, had said she died and woke up after seven days during her illness for almost three months.

Patience Jonathan testimony.

According to her testimony in 2013 she said she underwent seven surgery operations within one month and the doctors had given up hope on her survival.

“I remember when Chief Obasanjo was the President of the country, I was close to his late wife, Stella. We worshiped together in this chapel.

It was a painful moment for me that time when she (Stella) died and her corpse was brought here.

“That was how my corpse would have been brought here. It was not an easy experience for me. I actually died, I passed out for more than a week. My intestine and tummy were opened.

“I am not Lazarus but my experience was similar to his. My doctors said all hope was lost.

“A black doctor in London who is with us in this service was flown in when the situation became critical. It was God himself in His infinite mercy that said I will return to Nigeria. God woke me up after seven days.

“I know that some people somehow leaked the information that I was dead. They are people that I trust and rely on; to them, I was dead and I would never return to the country alive. Some of them even sold my things off.

“I won’t say everything here. It is the Lord’s doing that I returned alive. When God says yes, nobody can say no.

CITING “People are always afraid of operation (surgery) but in my own case, while my travail lasted, I was begging for it (surgery) after the third operation because I was going to the theatre everyday. vanguardngr.com

MAKE NIGERIA GREAT AGAIN-BUHARI.

President Muhammadu Buhari Tuesday in
Daura called on Nigerian youths to make
Nigeria great again through pursuit of
knowledge, patriotism
and commitment to values that promote
national unity.
This was contained in a press release made
available to the media by the Senior Special
Assistant to the President on Media &
Publicity, Garba Shehu on Tuesday.
Over 100 National Youth Service Corps
(NYSC) members serving in Daura local
government area, paid a courtesy visit to the
President at his residence in Daura.
President Buhari pledged his unalloyed
commitment to the unity and prosperity
of Nigeria.
He urged them to remain focused in life,
pursue their dreams and reject those fanning
embers of discord and disintegration of
Nigeria.
The President, who specially recognised
corps members from the Niger Delta and
South-Eastern states serving in Daura,
praised the vision of
former President Yakubu Gowon in setting up
the scheme in 1973.
The President said the scheme has
creditably promoted national unity and
cohesion by exposing young people to the
uniqueness and cultural
diversity of Nigeria.
“I asked for those from the other extreme of
Nigeria because I very much appreciate the
NYSC scheme and whenever I see General
Gowon, I
always thank him for that.’’
Speaking specifically to corps members from
the South Eastern states, the President said:
“Tell your colleagues who want Biafra to
forget
about it.’’
“As a military commander, I walked from
Degem, a border town between the north
and the east, to the border between
Cameroons and Nigeria.
“I walked on my foot for most of the 30
months that we fought the Nigeria-Biafra
civil war, in which at least 2 million
Nigerians were
killed.
“We were made by our leaders to go and
fight Biafra not because of money or oil,
because oil was not critical factor then, but
because of
one Nigeria.
“So if leaderships at various levels failed, it
was not the fault of the rest of Nigerians
who have no quarrel with one another.
“So please tell your colleagues that we must
be together to build this country. It is big
enough for us and potentially big enough in
terms
of resources.
”Those who work hard will earn a
respectable living. I have seen this country, I
fought for this country and I will continue to
work for the
unity of this country,’’ the President said.
The Corps Liaison Officer in Daura, Mr
Egbewumi Adebolu, in his remarks, thanked
the President for the honour of receiving
them and
making their stay in Daura memorable.
He said the youths strongly believed in the
programme of the President to reduce
unemployment and create jobs for more
Nigerians.
Adebolu thanked the President for his
personal gifts of cows, bags of rice and cash
to corps members in the community for
Salah celebration.

The first is security; we need to sufficiently secure our country to manage it well. ‘‘The second is economy, especially job for the youths and fighting corruption which is continuous. ‘‘For the youths, graduates and non-graduates who are interested in agriculture, the Federal Ministry of Agriculture in collaboration with the CBN are doing something to provide employment for them,’’ the President said.

FORMER FIRSTLADY USED DRIVERS,ETC TO OPEN DOLLAR ACCOUNTS.

  The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested four domestic servants, including a driver and a houseboy, whose names were used to open bank accounts for Mrs Dame Patience Jonathan, the wife of former President Goodluck Jonathan. Sources within the anti-graft agency said on Sunday that the companies’ accounts were opened at Skye Bank. The companies are Pluto Property and Investment Company Limited, Seagate Property Development and Investment Company Limited, Trans Ocean Property and Investment Company Limited and Globus Integrated Service Limited. The four companies’ accounts, which have since been frozen by the EFCC, have a balance of about $15m while another account, which bears Patience Jonathan’s name, has $5m. Mr. Sammie Somiari, who deposed to an affidavit on behalf of the ex-President’s wife, said the former First Lady was the owner of the money in the accounts. She had revealed that she gave millions of dollars to the then Special Adviser to the President on Domestic Affairs, Waripamowei Dudafa, to open accounts for her. Somiari, however, claimed that Dudafa opened five accounts for Patience and that only one of the accounts was in her name, while the other four were opened in the names of companies belonging to Dudafa. A detective at the EFCC, however, revealed that Dudafa used his domestic servants’ names to open the four other accounts and then deposited the money into the accounts. The operative added, “We were investigating Dudafa when we stumbled on those four companies’ domiciliary accounts opened at Skye Bank with a balance of about $15m. On further investigation, we were able to identify the directors of the companies. “When we detained the directors, we found out that they were Dudafa’s domestic servants. One of them was a houseboy while another one was a driver. Their photographs were used in opening the accounts and their signatures were forged. “We found out that these domestic servants were completely innocent because they had no access to the accounts. We have since released them. The sole signatory to the accounts was Patience Jonathan and she was issued with a special card, which is accepted worldwide. She has a separate account, which was opened in her name and has a balance of $5m.” The detective said a lawyer, Amajuoyi Briggs, who allegedly helped Dudafa to perpetrate the fraud, would also be arraigned. It was learnt that two Skye Bank executives, Demola Bolodeoku and Dipo Oshodi, who helped Dudafa to open the accounts on March 22, 2010, were also being investigated. The detective added, “This is a clear case of fraud and there is no way the bank officials will say they did not know what was going on. They are under investigation and those found culpable will be arraigned.” The EFCC operative said he could not immediately confirm if the transaction was reported to the Nigeria Financial Intelligence Unit. He explained that the commission had discovered a trend which politicians used in laundering and concealing funds, saying it was becoming more rampant due to the operation of the Bank Verification Number which links all accounts owned by an individual. He added, “What we have noticed is that in order to conceal funds, what politicians and top civil servants do is to open bank accounts in the name of family or friends and then make themselves the sole signatory to the account. “Don’t forget that we traced about 17 bank accounts to the immediate past Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh (retd.). “Often times, they do this in connivance with bank officials and that is why the EFCC Chairman, Mr. Ibrahim Magu, has said henceforth, whenever we are investigating a bank official, we will probe the entire bank as well because these officials usually act under the instruction of their superiors.” Jonathan’s wife has, however, sued Skye Bank for freezing her bank accounts and giving the EFCC vital information about her finances. She also wants the court to order Skye Bank to pay her damages in the sum of N200m for what she termed a violation of her right to own personal properties under Section 44 of the 1999 Constitution.

PDP' S WASTED YEARS- BUHARI

 President Muhammadu Buhari says the Peoples Democratic Party which ruled Nigeria for 16 years, accomplished nothing. Buhari said this while addressing journalists in Daura on Monday after attending Eid prayers, according to a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr. Garba Shehu. He said, “I want Nigerians to realise that what this government inherited after 16 years of the PDP government was no savings, no infrastructure, no power, no rail, no road and no security.” The President, however, argued that within a year, his government was able to crush Boko Haram. He said he had intensified the war against corruption as those who diverted public funds had started returning the money. The President further maintained that his war against corruption was not one-sided. Buhari said, “Nigerians can see what we have done on Boko Haram and what we are doing to resolve the problem in the Niger Delta. Before the elections, we identified three major problems confronting our country. “The first is security; we need to sufficiently secure our country to manage it well. The second is economy, especially job for the youths and fighting corruption which is continuous. ‘‘For the youths, graduates and non- graduates who are interested in agriculture, the Federal Ministry of Agriculture in collaboration with the CBN are doing something to provide employment for them.” The President thanked Nigerians for supporting the Federal Government’s policies, programmes and actions aimed at improving security, revamping the economy and combating corruption. ‘‘We should thank God this year, the reports I’m getting, which is very pleasing, is that we will have a bumper harvest this year. President Buhari is observing this year’s Eid holiday in his native home in Daura, Katsina State and will return to Abuja after the two-day public holiday.
